Web Programming?

I want to get into web programming but i’m learning that there are so many different languages out there.
Any idea on what’s a good place to start?
back end and front end.

    If it is web design you are intending on doing then learn
    HTML
    CSS
    some/all JavaScript
    Then for DHTML
    ASP or
    PHP
    and/or
    XML
    Then if you NEED to have animation such as games or interactive realtime content or applications then you could learn
    Java or
    Flash or
    Shockwave

    You should start with basic HTML and CSS. Then you can move on to a web framework like Ruby on Rails, PHP or ASP.NET.
